Pharmacy Times Office of Continuing Professional Education (PTOCPE) is an independent continuing healthcare education company accredited by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE). Our sole purpose is to plan, develop, implement, and evaluate accredited continuing pharmacy education (CPE) activities for pharmacists.
PTOCPE’s mission is to provide accredited activities that:
Contain fair and balanced, evidence-based clinical information for pharmacists so that they may be the primary resource for unbiased information and advice regarding the safe, appropriate, and cost-effective use of medications
Relay the most current data on new and emerging therapeutic options to pharmacists so they have an in-depth knowledge of medications
Assist pharmacists with promoting wellness, health improvement, and disease prevention by offering practical strategies
Help pharmacists minimize the overuse, underuse, and misuse of medication by addressing these issues
These accredited activities are designed to help improve pharmacists’ knowledge, competence, and skills. The ultimate goal is for the activities to ensure that pharmacists are better prepared to provide the highest quality of pharmacy care to the patients they serve and to the physicians they assist as part of an interprofessional treatment/management team.
Using principles of adult learning, PTOCPE uses a variety of educational formats, including live meetings and webinars, as well as home study formats (print- and Internet-based) to accommodate the diverse needs of the healthcare professionals we serve. Using our long-standing relationship with the publication Pharmacy Times®
(founded in 1897), PTOCPE enjoys a wide distribution of our CPE activities to more than 250,000 practicing pharmacists.
PTOCPE’s goal for pharmacists is to provide CPE activities that are focused on their educational and clinical needs, thereby enhancing their overall competency in pharmacy practice. This goal includes:
Sharing the latest information about existing and emerging drug therapies in order to improve pharmacists’ competence and knowledge of medication safety, efficacy, drug interactions, and dosing
Providing timely dissemination and explanation of pharmacy practice guidelines in order to encourage and/or improve adoption into practice
Offering patient counseling strategies to pharmacists in order to maximize medication adherence
Our CPE activities are intended for community-based, health-system-based, managed care-based, and specialty pharmacists. Our interprofessional CE activities are designed to educate physicians, nurses, and other allied healthcare professionals who work in community offices, academic institutions, and hospital-based practice settings.
PTOCPE cosponsors with other organizations (that are not deemed commercial interests) to develop accredited interprofessional CE activities. Partnerships with leading schools of medicine, pharmacy, and the publication The American Journal of Managed Care®
(founded in 1995) maximize the reach of these accredited activities.
